Tetrachloroethylene
Perchloroethylene, also known as perchloroethylene, is an organic chemical widely used in dry cleaning and metal degreasing. It is also used to make other chemicals and consumer products. It is a non-flammable liquid at room temperature. It is volatile and has a pungent sweet smell. Many people can smell tetrachloroethylene when it is present in the air at one part per million. In 1821, Michael Faraday first heated hexachloroethane to decompose it into tetrachloroethylene and chlorine.
